Goals For January 2022

My goals for January 2022 are somewhat lowkey. After the last two years, I’m kind of hoping 2022 doesn’t even notice me and my family, at all.

So, if you don’t mind, I’m just going to jump right on in with what I would like to achieve while I have this whole new year, new month, new goals mindset firmly in place.

No Resolutions

New Years resolutions are so 1990s. I would rather spend time setting goals and working on my own personal growth.

Cooking More At Home

I don’t know about anyone else, but cooking at home has really gotten away from me during the pandemic. It just became way too easy to just cave into negative emotions and eat my feelings with food delivery multiple times a day. Of course, I would always justify this to my husband by stating that we were helping restaurants during the uncertainty of it all. And while that was true, part of me just stopped giving a damn and let my own depression take a strong hold on me.

And what’s really nuts about this is that I love to cook! I was also using cooking to help Jason learn to be more of a helping hand around the house and to teach him to be independent.

Cut Back On Using Instacart

Basically, I need to truly get up and get out of the house more, and do our won grocery shopping.

I love Instacart, but maybe a bit too much. I’m not saying I would stop using it altogether. I plan to cut back on using it only if I need to shop at more than two stores in a day. But honestly, that type of shopping can be stretched out over a couple of days.

We’ll have to see how this one plays out. But I’m definitely cutting way back on using it.

Walk My Dogs More

As I type these words, I’m listening to my 10-month-old Sheltie pup, who is outside in our HUGE back yard, and she barking to her heart’s content. The problem is that it’s almost 1:00 AM and we have local noise ordinances that we must adhere to.

My older son let her out because she seemed like she needed to go. In reality, she’s bored and running around our backyard and barking at whatever it is she’s barking at is her way of saying, “I’m bored and I need to be walked during the day…” and I want to make that happen this month. I also have a senior Pekingese who could use the exercise too.

Read At Least One Book

I have a couple of books that I’ve been meaning to start, but can’t seem to carve out the time to do it. The one book I truly want to read is called Sincerely, Your Autistic Child which is supposed to be a diverse collection of autistic voices that highlight how parents can avoid common mistakes and misconceptions, and make their child feel truly accepted, valued, and celebrated for who they are.

I have always done my best to make sure Jason truly feels loved, accepted and valued for who he is. Maybe I’ve missed something. I’m on the spectrum myself, and I feel that’s a huge advantage when you have am autistic child. But you never know. It never hurts to see if you can go above and beyond for someone you love.

Get On a Less Sporadic Sleep Schedule

I have had so much trouble sleeping these past couple of years. It’s not solely the Rona that has plagued my brain and kept me up at night. No, my main issue is I’m almost 50 and I’m running out of hormones! I also have anxiety and major depression (again, not related to the Rona), so all of these things combined makes quite the insomnia clusterfuck.

Part of me knows that if I ate better, got more exercise and took my medications on a consistent basis, this would remedy itself within a week (10 days tops). But because I’m stubborn, I have to blog about it so I have it in front of me all month long.
