My 5 Favorite Instagram Accounts For Special Needs Parenting
I feel like I owe everyone an apology. I had wanted to have Happily Ever Autism launched and active in April. I was working hard on it. But, as life has a way of doing sometimes, life here turned into a full blown, no nonsense, who’s your daddy sh*t show in late February, and I’m just now trying to catch up with all the things I had up in the air. So, here I am, for now. Hopefully nothing else happens, and I don’t see something shiny out of the corner of my eye, and I’ll be able to settle into a regular posting schedule.
Any who, this is a little post that I would love to make a weekly thing. Say, every Friday we meet right here and I tell you all about these awesome Instagram accounts that are dedicated to special needs parenting and why I think you should be following them.
Please do not be insulted if your account isn’t listed. I follow so many wonderful and inspirational parents that it’s hard to keep up, let alone pick just five a week to suggest. Trust me when I say, I’ll get to you.
By the way, is #followfriday still a thing? Was is ever really a thing on Instagram? Is anyone even still on Instagram?
So many questions!
Seriously though, if you are on Instagram, here are some incredible people you should be following:
Autism With A Side Of Fires
I came across Mama Fry about 8 or 9 years ago. You can also find her on Facebook.
I love me some Mama Fry because she handles life with a sense of humor. Following her for all this time has taught me the VERY important life lesson of learning to laugh. Laugh and have a damn good sense of humor. And if you don’t have that sense of humor, you better develop one, and FAST. You will not survive this wonderous journey of special needs parenting without the ability to find the humor in almost anything.
Autism Supermoms
I met Anne on Instagram back in 2016 when we followed each other on my ‘mom blog’ account, back when I was trying to be just another mom blogger, and I was honored to have her follow me on Happily Ever Autism’s Instagram account when I first set it up.
Autism Supermoms, maybe, could be considered a meme account. But they are awesome memes, with lots and lots of useful info.
Anne is just simply amazing and she definitely should be someone you are following.
The Chronic Couple
This is such a wonderfully informative IG account! It’s so important, as special needs parents, to listen to and take advice from those who have those exact special needs. I only discovered this account just a few months ago, and I am so happy I did.
Brandy is multitalented. Her posts are gorgeous and helpful. I must give her lots of praise because I have learned a lot about myself because of her as I too have ADHD.
Follow her! You will not be sorry.
Purpose Filled Mommy
Any time, day or night, when I need a little emotional pick me up, I simply visit Purpose Filled Mommy, and I’m guaranteed an instant smile. Whether it’s an uplifting inspirational quote, or photos of her beautiful family, you are guaranteed to feel a little joy in your heart.
Ever since the start of the pandemic last year, I have been trying to calculate my family’s escape from New Jersey. This IG account helped me put South Carolina on the list of possible new home states for us. Now go and give her a follow!
Seven Yellow Bananas
Deana is another autism mom who I connected with a number of years ago, again, when I tried to hack it as a standard mom blogger. I was so lucky to connect with her here on the autism side of IG.
Deana has a beautiful family and a wonderful bond with her children. She’s been a source of inspiration for me since 2016, and I hope she continues to be for many more years to come.
Conclusion
As you can see from just this short list of these fantastic Instagram accounts, there is no shortage of support out there in the special needs parenting community.
I have been thinking of starting a Facebook support group for special needs families. I know there are already so many wonderful online support groups on social media, so why not add one more and make it a fun place to hang out?
I would love to know which Instagram accounts you follow, and what your thoughts are about starting a special needs parent support group on Facebook? Just leave us a comment, or two, down below.
